Help me, I think I'm fallin... [okt. 25-a, 2005|06:39 pm]
First, thanks for everyone who responded with so much concern to my post about slipping and falling:
    http://www.livejournal.com/users/clynne/84698.html

I am back from the Urgent Care Clinic -- hey, here's a tip on getting seen quickly at a UCC, just tell them you can't sit down. I got bumped in front of everybody except a couple really sick little kids. Rock out!

So, what happened was I was walking down the stairs from my livingroom into the Tiki Room, and somehow lost my feet and instead of collapsing like a normal person would I held my computer up and away to try to keep from dashing it onto the hard tile floor. Er. Bad, bad instincts! Save body first, computer SECOND!

I ended up leaning back somehow and BOUNCING my back against the stairs three or four times before coming to a stop on the floor. Then I sort of laid on the floor and cried for a bit. Then I realized, hey, I might be all alone here but at least I have my computer RIGHT HERE so I can call for help! I reached up with my right hand to pull up a Terminal screen (which would connect to gale, my instant messaging client of choice). Ow. That hurt, doing that. Maybe I'll just sit up and get the phone and call Erich.

OW!!Right, sitting not such a good idea. Flipping over into "cat pose" and then leveraging up onto my feet, then doing a knee-bend to grab the computer with my left side -- which doesn't hurt at all by the way -- and then putting the computer on the bookshelf where I don't have to sit or bend to use it? MUCH BETTER IDEA. At this point, I'm now realizing that I'm probably kinda damaged (the severe pains from my left hip were a dead giveaway). I'm not entirely sure if Erich is at his computer, but I figure someone is, so I puff to my personal category a general request for a ride to the Urgent Care Clinic.

Er, OK, so, I guess I wasn't thinking terribly clearly because that of course panicked all my friends on the channel. Also, the phone rings; it's Erich, I tell him what's up and he's gonna come home. Right, so, I let my friends all know I'm OK and I make a post to my LiveJournal. That would be my "I'm in pain, I'll talk to people and in general disseminate information" stress reaction, right there.

I couldn't sit in the car; I had to lay down in the back seat. I was worried about sitting when it hurts before seeing a doctor, because, well, maybe I would be doing additional damage. Anyway, the Urgent Care Clinic gets me in remarkably fast -- I had just convinced Erich to return to work because it was just gonna be several hours of sitting around being bored when they put me in a room.

A younger-than-me doctor (when did doctors become so young? And so cute?) came in to see me, I explained what happened, and he made me sit up and then he tested my legs for numbness and strength and arranged for me to get X-rays and an anti-inflammatory shot. Oh! OK, when you're imagining me walking through the UCC, you have to imagine that I'm walking all slow, and HUNCHED OVER LIKE IGOR, because it's the only comfortable way for me to walk. Only, of course, rather than being Igor, I'm wearing a pink Hello Kitty shirt, blue overalls, and have long blue hair. It was probably pretty damn funny looking.

Right, so I get the X-rays, and the doctor comes back and says they look fine, no bone damage, just probably lots of muscle damage, so then I get the anti-inflammatory shot. They forgot to tell me I'm getting a shot in the butt. I forgot to tell THEM that I'm wearing hot pink underpants that say "HELLO KITTY" across the ass. Then I get prescriptions for Vicodin, Flexeril, and Motrin. Woo, hoo, I am gonna be so high tonight when Erich gets back from the pharmacy and the video store.

Erich picks me up, I still can't sit in the car, so I lay down in the back for the trip home. We get home to find out the cats haven't, in fact, peed all over the house despite being deprived of a litterbox for several hours (I had just finished washing out the litterbox when this adventure began).

In summary:
  • Computer is fine.
  • I am damn fine, but I fucked up muscles in my lower back, right hip, and neck. Also, I have bigass bruises on my right elbow and forearm, or I will when the color comes up.
  • I won't be wearing my planned Hallowe'en costume, since it involved these boots.
  • Who wants to come watch movies on my sofa tomorrow afternoon! I have Jalapeno Poppers and mini corn dogs in the freezer!
  • LigiloRespondu al ĉi tiu

I know! I was all excited to wear them in public. Since I'm not gonna wear the outfit, now, I'll let you guess what the costume was. Hint: I also acquired a pair of Sai as costume props.

Those boots are too awesome not to wear, perhaps we can get you a wheelchair? ;p

p.s. I'm very glad you're ok and didn't break anything. Maybe I need to make you the bubble wrap suit I've been threatening Broken with for years?

I'll just have to wear 'em some other time, like, I'll come out to Bunker or something. :( This costume would look *silly* in a wheelchair.

    Today Erich called me "Gimpy-Lynne."
